Whale 1

I really am in my happy place when I sit to create Whales, they're such magical special creatures. Equally the water is just as important and I really enjoy creating the flow and texture. My work is created using the sgrafitto technique with Porcelain and cobalt. I sit and mark the outline freehand using many different photographs and then carve the clay. I use Porcelain because I love its translucency and its a very special clay. The base is found driftwood, the majority of which comes from Morecambe Bay but also Cornwall and Scotland.
