I really am in my happy place when I sit to create Whales, they're such magical special creatures. Equally the water is just as important and I really enjoy creating the flow and texture. My work is created using the sgrafitto technique with Porcelain and cobalt. I sit and mark the outline freehand using many different photographs and then carve the clay. I use Porcelain because I love its translucency and its a very special clay. The base is found driftwood, the majority of which comes from Morecambe Bay but also Cornwall and Scotland. The approximate measurements for this piece are 300mm width and 180mm height with the base.
